Homeowners today don’t have time to create luxury in their interiors; instead, Donna Elle undertakes this vital task for them. She interprets their personalized sense of place: “When I treat a client’s home, I ask many questions about the uses and occupants of a space. I come to understand my clients’ needs and become their problem solver.”
Endless energy, spirit, and passion allow Elle to shape desirable spaces. Her style is ever changing in response to each project’s individuality. Ultimately, clients benefit from interiors infused with comfort they can see and feel.
From Scissors to CEO
Elle’s entry into the world of design began at the age of 10, when she availed herself of the nearby fabric stores and mills of Western Mass.—a fitting setting for a budding seamstress. Through her teens and twenties, she spent hours sewing and learning through class instruction and trial and error. “I was intrigued by textiles and their properties, their function and beauty,” she recalls. “Beyond texture and pattern, the appeal for me was in developing a keen sense of what would and wouldn’t work in a finished garment.” Continuing her textile passion as owner and operator of her workroom Threads, Elle was a noted dressmaker for the bridal market, which emerged in the ’80s and has flourished over the past two decades.
Coastal Colors
“I think time spent enjoying the shore and developing my sea legs since I was an infant established the foundation of my color experience,” explains the designer, who recalls viewing spectacular fall foliage while living in Hampshire County (the gateway to the Berkshires) and summers spent gathering stones, shells, and sea glass on family trips to Block Island, Rhode Island. Elle’s encounters with sea, sky, landscape, and beach have left lasting color impressions.
