Donna Elle, ASID allied member, has been providing design services since establishing her life on Nantucket in 1974; her creative spirit has etched a history there. She has captured the attention of her audience both on- and off-island for four decades, and has garnered a dual status as both creator of unique custom interiors and entrepreneur.
Elle specializes in creating tasteful interior spaces—with an emphasis on high-end residential design for renovations or new construction—and collaborating with clients and their chosen team of professionals.
Color Selection
A room tends to call out for certain colors—hues that complement its solar orientation, natural surroundings, or the dyes in a client’s favorite rug. Certified as a color/design consultant through the Eiseman Center for Color Information and Training, Elle selects interior palettes that reflect personal choices for each client’s individual rooms or home for a subtle yet distinct communication.
Textiles
During her childhood, Elle grew increasingly enamored with fabrics as she taught herself the art of machine and hand sewing. Working as a seamstress and owning the Nantucket workroom Threads from 1982 to 1994 further solidified her sensitivity to textile elements. Her favorite part of any project is the pure joy of selecting composition of fibers, intertwined with pattern and color. Interpreting the synergy between a space and her client is what Elle brings to any project, no matter the size.
Window Treatment and Upholstery Workroom
Elle’s lifelong passion for window treatments and textiles resulted in the creation of Nantucket Windows, a subsidiary of Donna Elle Interior Design. Her exceptional eye for light and landscape translates into inspired window treatment designs, which have been recognized by seven consecutive annual awards. These honors culminated in the National Envision Award from the industry publication Window Fashions in 2004, marking Elle as a leading professional in the field. Servicing clients’ window treatment and upholstery needs since 1974 is the defining signature she applies to all projects.
Space Planning & Feng Shui
A crucial first step in the overall design process, space optimization requires the ability to envision the whole, while highlighting individual elements that make a project unique. Elle is also a certified Feng Shui Consultant from the Feng Shui Institute of America (FSIA) and utilizes this ancient design practice in her work. Harmony within an environment is achieved by orchestrating the physical elements to align with the natural flow of energy.
Renovations
Drawing from an established base of skilled and reliable craftsmen, Elle provides and manages the resources/talent required for new construction projects and renovations, which are the heart of her best work. Touted as a team player, she can seamlessly enter a project at any point and work with other professionals on-site to assure her clients’ best interests and achieve a realization of their initial concepts.
